So many of my clients mention that their pantries are just a mess. And it’s easy to get to that point – between job, shuffling kids to school, etc, etc.
Here are my QuickSteps to an organized pantry!
Step 1: Pull everything out. Yup, everything. It really helps to see all of your stuff out on the counters, and a completely empty pantry. Consider it your canvas.
Step 2: Throw away any expired food and set aside any food that is still good but you’ll never use. These items you could drop-off at a local food pantry or your kid’s school, if they’re having a canned/boxed food drive.
Step 3: Give your pantry a good vacuum or wipe down.
Step 4: Begin bringing items back into your pantry – by category. All of your pastas and rices together, your breads, tortillas, and buns together, snack items together, canned goods together, etc.
Step 5: Use clear, plastic bins, baskets, or other containers to corral categories that have smaller items, like condiments and seasoning packets, snacks, beverage mixes, etc. Labeling the bins will help the whole family know where things belong.
Step 6: Stand back and appreciate your rockin’ new pantry! You now know where every item is, and this makes cooking easier, grocery shopping easier, and that saves you time AND money!
Bonus Tip: Keep a basket or bin of approved, kid-friendly snacks at the kids’ eye level. It helps them become more independent and they can help pack their own lunches!
