As most women do, I have clothes in my closet in a small range of sizes. I’m a huge proponent of people having a healthy body image. So one day, I was coming home from a yoga class. I felt strong. I felt confident. And then I tried on an older pair of jeans. And they didn’t fit.
I kvetched and cursed and got fairly cranky with myself. And then it hit like a lightning bolt. How could an innocent item of clothing change my mood and self-image that quickly?! Ridiculous, right? But I think so many of us have been there!
So, a new ‘rule’ I set for myself? NEVER have anything in the closet that doesn’t make you feel good about yourself. That bikini you wish you could still fit into, those pre-pregnancy skinny jeans, that cute date night dress that’s just a bit too snug. I’d rather have a smaller wardrobe than things that affect my body image negatively.
So those jeans of mine? Tossed into the Donation Bin. Along with a few pairs of dress pants and a few tops.
Do I have fewer options for outfits? Sure. But now, every single item of clothing in my closet fits well and makes me feel fantastic.
Sooo, what do you have way back in your closet that’s making you doubt yourself? What are you going to do about it?
